Ottoson Middle School
We offer four languages at the middle school: French, Latin, Mandarin, and Spanish. In 6th grade, students choose Exploring French, Exploring Latin, Exploring Mandarin, or Exploring Spanish. Students may continue studying their language from 6th grade or switch to a different language when they enter 7th grade.
In 7th grade, students complete level 1a of their language of choice.
In 8th grade, students complete level 1b of their language of choice.
Upon graduating middle school, teachers make recommendations to students about placement in high school. Students will be placed in one of the following levels: level 1, level 2 Curriculum A, level 2 Honors. Please click here to view the placement criteria upon which teachers base their recommendations.

We offer the following languages in the High School:
Students generally begin high school in year 2 of language study, but may begin a new language at any time, and are encouraged to enroll in two languages. To meet their graduation requirement, students must take two years of the same language, but most colleges require three to four years of language study.
In addition to our five languages, we currently offer the following electives, though these courses do not count towards the graduation requirement:
- Digital Language Course: Students enroll in an online language course through Brigham and Young University's Independent Study program. The following languages are offered at AHS through this program: Arabic, ASL, German, Japanese, Korean, Russian. There is a fee associated with this course. Please click here for more information.
